GOVA Transit Mobility Hubs

The City of Greater Sudbury is working on a Transit Hub Feasibility Study to develop new Mobility Hubs in the Downtown, South End and New Sudbury Centre areas of Greater Sudbury.

Transit Mobility Hubs are major transit stations where different modes of transportation, such as walking, cycling and public transit, come together seamlessly. The hubs connect residents to amenities, like work, recreation, shopping malls and restaurants.

Main objectives of the project:

The Transit Hub Feasibility Study is seeking input from the community on the new Mobility Hubs. An open house will be held at each of the existing hubs to provide an overview of the project and get the public’s feedback on preferred amenities for the new hubs, potential alternate locations and the overall GOVA Transit system.

Background:

Following a comprehensive review of the public transit system, the Greater Sudbury Transit Action Plan (TAP) was approved by City Council in February 2019. The City implemented several improvements to support a more user-friendly transit system, including new routes and schedules with consideration for further improvements to the major transit hubs.

GOVA Transit wants to lay the foundation for even more service improvements, the future transition to electric vehicles and improved amenities. The TAP recommended exploring other locations for the Downtown, New Sudbury and South End Transit Mobility Hubs.

The goal of this study is to identify and plan for new Transit Mobility Hub locations that will improve passenger safety and security, accessibility, the transit system’s ease of use, connections to major destinations and our city’s livability to support the future growth and success of GOVA Transit.

Through a Transfer Payment Agreement for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP): Public Transit Stream, the Federal and Provincial Governments will support the City of Greater Sudbury with funds to carry out public infrastructure projects, including this initiative. The ministry-approved budget for this project, divided across Federal, Provincial and Municipal funding, is approximately $27,156,250.
