Status Update March 2021

  • Junction East Building Design Consortium led by WZMH Architects is fully engaged.
  • Team includes specialized expertise in library design and art gallery design.
  • Functional Program phase well underway.
  • Community engagement campaign progressing well.
  • First Peoples Group engaged to provide support to Indigenous consultation.
  • Participation from many groups: Collaboration Working Group, Library and Art Gallery Board and staff, Sudbury Theatre Centre (STC) and Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association (SMFAA) Boards and staff, CGS Internal Technical Team, community groups and residents, including neighbours.
  • Initial focus on potential integration of STC & SMFAA into the project. Options for Council in Q2 2021.
  • Additional streams of work: review of 2017 business plan, development of facility governance and operational models, including internal plans for Greater Sudbury Public Library (GSPL) and Art Gallery of Sudbury (AGS).
  • Specific analysis on technology, energy, transportation and access, and parking.
  • $500,000 committed from the Government of Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to support design and integration work
  • Further opportunities to seek capital funds
  • Design Phase Support Applications submitted to NOHFC and FedNor
  • Applications for energy-related grants in development
  • Capital construction support applications in future phase
