Lorraine Street Affordable Housing Project

City Council has approved the development of a 40-unit affordable housing building on Lorraine Street which will support people and populations who are vulnerable.

Update – March 20, 2024

Work has resumed at the site of the Lorraine Street Affordable Housing complex, 1179 Lorraine St. The balance of the modules is currently being prepared for installation in April/May of 2024. The complex is expected to be complete in the summer/fall of 2024.

Update - April 28, 2023

Construction Notice

The City of Greater Sudbury will begin construction work on the Lorraine Street Affordable Housing complex at 1179 Lorraine Street, Sudbury. Construction by the City’s contractor, Nomodic Modular Structures, will begin in early May 2023, and is expected to be completed by December 2023. Work will typically take place during daylight hours. Weekend or night work may be required.

Construction Details:

  • May to August 2023 – site development, foundation work and utility activities
  • September to December 2023 – module delivery and building assembly

Affected residents will be notified if a temporary service disruption to power or water is required to complete upgrades.

Update - November 14, 2022

Residents in the neighbourhood are invited to participate in a site design engagement session at College Boreal on November 23, 2022 - 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The City will provide details on the final building design, and the community will have the opportunity to share ideas about the site design. Residents can RSVP for the session at LorraineAHP@greatersudbury.ca.

*Please park in the B3 lot and access the rear doors to Collège Boréal’s restaurant. There is no cost for parking.

Nomodic Modular Structures Inc. is the successful proponent for construction of the Lorraine Street Affordable Housing project. The following are general construction timelines - these will be updated as the project advances:

  • Secure site by end of September 2022 (to prevent vehicles from parking on site).
  • Hold community engagement session to help inform development of site (i.e. landscaping, fencing, security, etc.) in fall of 2022.
  • Submit Site Plan to Planning Department for approval by end of 2022.
  • Begin site preparation in winter/spring 2023.

The community was invited to participate in a virtual public information session on November 18, 2021 - 6 to 8 p.m. This was an opportunity to provide residents in the neighbourhood with information on the project and answer questions they might have.
