Community Action Network Review
The City is undertaking a comprehensive review of the Community Action Network (CAN) Program. This review was called for by Council as part of the 2019-2027 Strategic Plan and includes an assessment of the program’s strengths, weaknesses, mandate and alignment with the City’s strategic priorities.
For over 15 years, CANs have brought people together to build healthy communities. These groups of resident volunteers are supported by the City through financial, staff and other in-kind resources. They take action to implement projects and initiatives that have a positive impact on the quality of life in Greater Sudbury. There are currently 20 CANs across the city.

As part of this review, public engagement sessions were held to better understand the CAN program, community experiences with CANs and how community engagement can be improved moving forward. A review of the report findings and recommendations will be shared with CAN Chairs and Executives in May 2025 along with an opportunity to collaborate on solutions based on the report's findings. The goal is to present a plan for the evolution of the CAN program and the City's support for volunteerism, to City Council in Q4 of 2025.
