Your Ideas in Action

Earlier this year, the City of Greater Sudbury hosted an engagement campaign to ask you to imagine Junction East. Your feedback provided us with many common themes that are guiding the design of this facility. You told us it was important to include:

• Public Realm – represent our diverse community of various cultures
• Form – the communicative power of buildings
• Inhabited Art – art and architecture working together
• Inside/Outside – diffusing their boundaries
• Interior Landscapes – interior landscapes as organic terrains
• Materiality and Playfulness – craftsmanship, scale, colour and textures

Conceptual Design of Junction East

The architectural team has taken these themes and developed a conceptual design for Junction East. This design includes information gathered from you about what you imagined for Junction East, and the needs of our project partners about their spaces, programming and the relationships that need to exist between different spaces in the building.

The conceptual design is in its early stages, in a phase called Blocking and Stacking, and is being shaped by the information we gather from you. Based on your feedback, the design team will continue to adjust and transform the design. Each version will be more detailed, and will include additional elements like materials, landscaping, colours and textures, such as outside cladding and more. We will continue to check in with you as our architectural team refines the design.
