Kingsway Entertainment District and Arena/Event Centre Festival Square
The Kingsway Entertainment District is a space for everyone to enjoy our great northern lifestyle; a place for our growing community to gather and celebrate. It is an innovative experience and a choice destination for northeastern Ontario that will proudly host visitors to the beautiful city we love and call home.
Thank you to more than 500 residents who attended information sessions last fall to tell us what you wanted in a site. Now we're looking to you for a few more ideas about the shared outdoor space, called Festival Square.

Festival Square is a public open space that will appeal to residents and tourists alike, and bring a vibrant energy to the area through the events and programming.
Tell us your ideas on what features, including programming, you envision for the space! Information gathered here, and in person at various planned information sessions, will help shape the design and functions as we move forward in the creation of your Festival Square.
Ideas will be accepted until July 11, 2018.

What is your VISION for the space?
almost 4 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Think about overall uses and the feel of the space such as seasonal uses, family friendly, playful design, etc.
Commsalmost 4 years agoNew Sudbury Centre Open House:
-Greenery/Green space to soften atmosphere and incorporate in area as much as possible -More trees + gardens like outdoors vs City -Keep it family friendly (downtown is not inviting, doesn't make me comfortable)

Walkable

So you can ride your dirt bike to and from the big game.

A 3rd Starbucks drive thru. Make sure it's big enough to drive a Ford F250 extra long. My god do I love drive thrus.
0Shpettalmost 4 years agoAlready have great space, stop wasting city money and time.
The last thing this city needs is to waste money on a giant concrete pad looking at an arena and casino goers. Ya, just what I want to do with my family. Also this city already has amazing spaces, like kivi park and especially Bell Park. Bell park is a gem, with so much beauty and potential. It runs along the best thing in Sudbury and stretches to science north. Get the old hospital area turned into a restaurant area maybe with a hotel and direct connection to Bell park. Bell park would then have festivals, beaches, restaurants and other ideas. Stop wasting money on something the city does not need, when we already have other amazing areas, like bell park and of course the other great areas of Sudbury. Lets enjoy the green and the water, rather then grey concrete and casino goers.

What ACTIVITIES would you like to be available?
almost 4 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Think about the types of activities you'd like to see such as snowman building, ice skating, splash pads, public art, etc.
Commsalmost 4 years agoNew Sudbury Centre Open House:
-Skate rink -Rollerblading -splash pad

Create this space to add value to events that can ONLY be hosted at the new Event Centre. Rather than create a space that will be competing with Bell Park and other festival space in the City. So a little skating rink for folks waiting for the indoor rink, a large screen to show whats happening inside - outside, space for line-ups and a Sheltered Transit/Taxi Stop. Possibly a larger transit shelter than what exists elsewhere in the city, with a few benches. As there is no current transit route to this location so people might be waiting a while.

0Commsalmost 4 years agoNew Sudbury Centre Open House:
-Roller skating in summer -Skating -Outdoor concerts -Festivals like Rib Fest -Green space with flower or tulip festival -Spartan Race like obsticele course

This shouldn't exist as it's presented. There is no need for more entertainement of this kind (read casino). As a festival goer, there is nothing that could convince me to take the transit to go to a parking lot.
