The Kingsway Entertainment District is a space for everyone to enjoy our great northern lifestyle; a place for our growing community to gather and celebrate. It is an innovative experience and a choice destination for northeastern Ontario that will proudly host visitors to the beautiful city we love and call home.
Thank you to more than 500 residents who attended information sessions last fall to tell us what you wanted in a site. Now we're looking to you for a few more ideas about the shared outdoor space, called Festival Square.
Festival Square is a public open space that will appeal to residents and tourists alike, and bring a vibrant energy to the area through the events and programming.
Tell us your ideas on what features, including programming, you envision for the space! Information gathered here, and in person at various planned information sessions, will help shape the design and functions as we move forward in the creation of your Festival Square.
Ideas will be accepted until July 11, 2018.

Favouring the Kingsway site over downtown is a clear nod to Trumpian insularism that is plaguing our friends to the South. I'll explain: Comments in the media, both popular and social, favouring the Kingsway often come down to parking or the basic, skewed and rather strange notion of downtown being "gross" or "dirty"...you've heard the adjectives all before. But here's the deal - every single downtown of note in the universe definitely fits those abovenamed adjectives....because it's an offshoot of the fantastic melting pot that city cores create - that same core that begets innovation, commerce and liveability. Moving the arena away from the heart of the city would be like tearing down the Townhouse and replacing it with a Boston Pizza. Do we really want to whitewash our city further? The majority of our city's multicultural population resides in or right around the city core.... Our city is the most dense downtown, obviously. Why are we ripping out a main attraction to move it to a suburb? This makes zero sense. Who is taking transit to the Kingsway complex? The main hub is downtown! So people are transferring to take a bus down the Kingsway? Geez. And really - how is this arena/casino more convenient to everyone? Maybe to Coniston residents. There is no way it is handier for those in the Valley, either....I can't believe this is happening...where is the common sense????

There should be FREE to enter family events. Many festivals in Sudbury have heavy entry fees. Instead of offloading costs on residents and visitors, charge higher vendor fees so that people can attend festivals for free and pay for what they'd like to participate in or buy while there.

Patios, nice but still functional benches/seating area, gardens, shaded areas. Nice lighting (I.e., string lights, nice lamp posts). Paying tribute to the original land is also important- a spot dedicated to the indigenous land would be appreciated.
