Kingsway Entertainment District and Arena/Event Centre Festival Square
The Kingsway Entertainment District is a space for everyone to enjoy our great northern lifestyle; a place for our growing community to gather and celebrate. It is an innovative experience and a choice destination for northeastern Ontario that will proudly host visitors to the beautiful city we love and call home.
Thank you to more than 500 residents who attended information sessions last fall to tell us what you wanted in a site. Now we're looking to you for a few more ideas about the shared outdoor space, called Festival Square.

Festival Square is a public open space that will appeal to residents and tourists alike, and bring a vibrant energy to the area through the events and programming.
Tell us your ideas on what features, including programming, you envision for the space! Information gathered here, and in person at various planned information sessions, will help shape the design and functions as we move forward in the creation of your Festival Square.
Ideas will be accepted until July 11, 2018.

What is your VISION for the space?
almost 6 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Think about overall uses and the feel of the space such as seasonal uses, family friendly, playful design, etc.
Vickialmost 6 years agoDon't do it! Use the infrastructure we've already paid for - Bell Park and Ampitheatre! There is no more beautiful place for a festival.
35SudburyStudentsalmost 6 years agoCommunity friendly, accessible
I think the space should be family friendly but also be versatile to hosting adult events (beer fest, upscale restaurant). It should be accessible with LOTS of parking and bus routes. There should also be walking paths/biking trails. There should definitely be a sports complex. It should look warm and inviting- modern/classic vibe. There should also be tribute to the indigenous land that it is on. Additionally, please make the event centre have proper acoustics for concerts! The Sudbury arena is terrible for that.
1Sirdenysalmost 6 years agoJust parking up front
The whole premise behind this entertainment district is to appeal to the Costco/box store/shopping centre crowd - so that's where you want to draw your inspiration. Lots of parking right out front is just what people want. A huge paved field outside the front entrance - invest in some trees to keep it cooler in the summer. Add a Starbucks, a Tim Hortons and a Boston Pizza and you're set. Forget the outdoor festival square; Sudbury already has plenty to offer to those with an interest in such things and they won't be driving out to the end of the Kingsway for it.

This shouldn't exist as it's presented. There is no need for more entertainement of this kind (read casino). As a festival goer, there is nothing that could convince me to take the transit to go to a parking lot.

0SudburyStudentsalmost 6 years agoSeating, green space, nice lighting
Patios, nice but still functional benches/seating area, gardens, shaded areas. Nice lighting (I.e., string lights, nice lamp posts). Paying tribute to the original land is also important- a spot dedicated to the indigenous land would be appreciated.
