FAQs
Why are we relocating some municipal services?
In November 2023, Council approved plans for the development of a Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square.
This will involve retrofitting both 200 Brady St. and 199 Larch St. to include a new Central Library, the Art Gallery of Sudbury and the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association.
The project will provide residents with a variety of services in one convenient centralized location, and supports the City’s commitment to accessibility, environmental sustainability, multiculturalism, social inclusion and culture.
To make room for these new services at Tom Davies Square, the Municipal Services Relocation project will move some municipal services from 200 Brady St. to the provincial tower at 199 Larch St.
This is made possible by post-pandemic changes to the Province’s business operations, which has made a significant amount of space available within 199 Larch St.
Do we know where we will be moving?
Vacant space within 199 Larch St. (Provincial Building) has been identified as the location to accommodate the municipal services that need to move. There is space available from the 4th floor upwards.
We do not yet know the specific locations of where services will go.
When is this going to happen?
Construction at 200 Brady and 199 Larch is tentatively planned to begin in September 2025, with investigative construction starting as early as July.
HR1 will be the first group to move to the 12th floor at 199 Larch, with their transition expected to be completed in March 2025.
Temporary space – or swing space – has been allocated in the 199 Larch building to accommodate staff that will be impacted by early phases of construction. The project team will work with directors and managers of affected sections to plan and prioritize the use of this swing space.
Who is impacted?
Approximately 700 staff located from TDS, 200 Brady and 199 Larch will be impacted by the move. Staff in other CGS buildings will also undergo some consolidation and changes with this project.
When and how should I prepare?
If you’re impacted by this move, you can start preparing now!
Start going through your office and divisional space and remove items that are outdated or superseded, no longer in use or required for service delivery, no longer functioning or will not be accommodated by the move.
The project team is currently setting up an action plan for gathering items that are no longer used or required. More information will be shared soon.
