Municipal Services Relocation

On November 28, 2023 Council provided direction for staff to pursue the creation of Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square. The project will include a new central library at 200 Brady Street and an art gallery at 199 Larch Street. This means that we need to consolidate and relocate some municipal spaces to accommodate these new services.

Space is available in the Provincial Tower (199 Larch St.) from the 4th floor up. This is where some municipal services will be moving.

Existing CGS work areas may be affected in one of the following ways:

  1. Work location remains the same, with no anticipated changes
  2. Work location remains the same, but space will be consolidated to make room for other areas
  3. Work location will change and a consolidation of space will occur

Before we get started on designing the new spaces, we want you to share your ideas! You are invited to complete this survey because your current work area falls into one of the scenarios listed above.

This is your opportunity to provide us with information that can help influence the design of your new/updated work spaces.

The survey will be open until May 31.

A summary of results will be available in June.

  • Is it being taken into consideration that we have front-facing Building Services staff located on the first floor of TDS? With the newly constructed one-stop-shop, I don't see the staff being moved from this location. However, if Building Services moves to the Provincial Tower, and our front-facing staff remain where they are, this poses some concern regarding customer service. If they need someone from Planning, Technical Services or Building Services to come down, it could take awhile depending on the elevator traffic in the Provincial Tower. Also, if we need to run down to see the one-stop-shop multiple times per day, this is a huge time waster, considering we have 0 seconds to lose in our busy days, especially during construction season. Just a thought.

Thank you for your question. Yes, this has been taken into consideration. The intention is for the municipal One-Stop Shop to remain operational in its current location. There will be further and ongoing engagement with municipal staff to discuss working locations, design and technology to facilitate service delivery as the project progresses.

  • Hi there! I missed the boat to vote on work spaces and collaboration spaces. Assuming my thoughts are still valuable to you, I would prefer option c (private cubicle) for the workspaces and option B for the collaboration spaces (semi private booth). I find open office spaces distracting. Take care!
