Greater Sudbury is acting on the climate emergency and we all have a role to play

As a community, we are taking action to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. That means reducing GHG emissions caused by human activity to as close to zero as possible, and removing remaining emissions from the atmosphere.

It’s an ambitious goal – but we're a community that loves a challenge!

We’ve got a long term plan - the Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) - to help get us there. And the City recently released its phase one action plan, committing to more than 40 municipal actions over the next five years. Learn more here.

But working toward net zero isn't just about the City. Reaching our goal means we ALL have a role to play – government, businesses, schools, community groups, and residents of all ages.

And while 2050 may seem too far off to think about, the work has to start now. Every small action is part of a much larger solution.

  • Share your organization's actions

    The City has committed to over 40 actions over the next five years to help with the implementation of the Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP). If your business, organization or community group is also working on projects that support the goals of the CEEP, we want to hear about them!

    While some organizations may have large capital or infrastructure projects, other actions can be as simple as converting your lights to LED or developing a procurement policy for energy-efficient equipment. Every action that reduces energy use or GHG emissions counts.
