Lively Playground, 2015 Sixth Avenue

Before: Lively Playground has a variety of recreational opportunities with two tennis courts, a basketball court and a skate park. There is also a field house near two recreational sports fields.

A swing set, climbing apparatus and play structure were found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. The City of Greater Sudbury removed these items.

After: Residents told the City of Greater Sudbury they wanted a fitness focused playground design with structures that encourage climbing, swinging, balance and spinning. Most requested park amenities were shaded rest areas and picnic areas.

The new playground structure features three slides, an exciting variety of climbing equipment and an accessible feature. A new swing set is suitable for both tots and older children.

An overview of the renewed Lively Playground shows the approximate placement of new play equipment as well as shaded benches and picnic areas. It does not show existing structures that do not require renewal and will remain in the playground.

Installation of new play structures, including a new ground surface of engineered wood fibre, is scheduled for the spring 2019.
