Lonsdale Playground, 811 Lonsdale Avenue, Sudbury

Before: An existing slide was found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. This item will be removed in the spring 2019. A tot play structure and a spring toy are still in good condition and will remain in the playground.

After: Residents told the City of Greater Sudbury they wanted an imagination focused playground design in the theme of a castle.

Preferred activities were climbing multiple tiers of decking, swinging, slides at multiple heights and lengths and social interaction. Most requested park amenities were shaded rest areas, benches and a water fountain.

The new play structure is a castle theme with two slides, stairs and ramparts for climbing, balance apparatus and more. It includes an accessible feature.

An overview of the renewed Lonsdale Playground shows the approximate placement of new play equipment as well as a shaded bench area. It does not show existing structures that do not require renewal and will remain in the playground.

Installation of new play structures, including a new ground surface of engineered wood fibre, is scheduled for the spring 2019.
