Operation Greater Playgrounds
Background
To date, 42 municipal playgrounds have undergone replacement/renewal through a partnership of the City of Greater Sudbury and FedNor Canada (Community Revitalization Fund). During the 2024-2025 budget process, City Council approved the funding draw from Parks reserves over the next four years to advance the remaining 16 sites requiring replacement as part of the Playground Revitalization project.
Phase 4
Two playgrounds are scheduled for renewal in 2024, based on updated condition assessments and inspection reports:
- Central Lane Skate Park (Ward 7)
- Don Lita Playground (Ward 8)

St. Joseph Playground, St. Joseph Street, Sudbury
Before: An existing play structure, swing set and bench were found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. These items will be removed in the spring 2019.
After: Residents told the City of Greater Sudbury they wanted a fitness focused playground design with structures that encourage climbing, swinging, spinning and jumping. Most requested park amenities were shaded rest areas, benches and a bike rack.
