What are your ideas, Greater Sudbury?
about 6 years agostevealmost 6 years agoExtend 4 lane at Kingsway (eastbound) to Highway 17 bypass by 500 feet
Currently, when travelling on the Kingsway, eastbound, past the future site of the Arena/Casino, the 4 lane roadway converges about 500 feet before the Highway 17 (south) turnoff. This is a busy area every day around 5pm, and will only get busier once we have thousands of concert goers leaving the new arena at night. Currently, vehicles travel smoothly all along the far east end of the Kingsway, only to have to merge together for 500 feet before they split off towards Highway 17 and Bypass. Adding a very small section of a laneway would keep traffic flowing smoothly, especially when there is a red light at the intersection. By keeping 2 lanes along this corridor, vehicles planning on taking the 17 bypass can stay in the right (curb) lane, and clear a large amount of congestion during busy times.

Synchronizing of the traffic signals along Lasalle Boulevard in Sudbury would optimize the flow of traffic, reduce aggressive driving and effectively reduce the likelihood of red-light running which is a very common occurrence in the city. Optimizing traffic signal timing is a low-cost, high-benefit approach to reducing congestion and maximizes traffic progression, avoids frequent stops with minimal use of braking, reduces idle time at stop lights, reduces fuel consumption and air pollution emission levels, reduces trip time and easy on the nerves. It would also minimize the diversion of traffic to local and residential streets and improves safety and traffic conditions.

Adaptive control system, on the Tool-less Sensor Platform (TSP) to be mounted on street lighting after upgrading to LED type. The vision for TSP is that municipalities can use the fact that streetlights are everywhere, and that they have electrical power to become the ‘real estate’ upon which smart, connected infrastructure can be built. In addition to providing on-off / dimming / reporting functions for the street lights, these control nodes are designed to be functional and work with both our own and third party sensors, for monitoring water mains, water meters, weather, sound, motion, etc. Also could be used as a safety beacon to signal pedestrian SOS and signal emergency services with location.

So many public events take place at the Steelworkers Hall and Lexington Hotel, yet without a car, it is difficult to access these locations. Brady Street between Lorne and Paris (that includes the underpass) needs sidewalks on both sides, bike lanes on both sides and a transit route that stops at both of these venues.
