  • Review recruitment practices to identify and eliminate any barriers for diversity and inclusion

A DE&I Roadmap for hiring managers and Human Resources has been created and is in the process of working through the HCMP governance structure for approval. This roadmap will help provide a DE&I lens to hiring managers and Human resources and will serve as a guide for each step in the recruitment process.

This roadmap is important because it will help ensure that the organization is promoting diversity and inclusivity in the hiring process. By providing guidance to on how to attract and retain diverse talent, we can increase the representation of underrepresented groups, which will create a more equitable and inclusive workplace culture. This will lead to a range of benefits, including improved innovation, employee engagement and overall organization performance.

  • Bolster relationships with community partners to facilitate a diverse candidate pool

We are working with key partners in the community, such as employment services, newcomer services with YMCA, higher learning institutions and cultural and immigration groups to build relationships. By doing so this will help build trust and understanding across diverse groups. When people feel connected and valued, they are more likely to work collaboratively and support each other.

Strong relationships are essential for creating a more equitable and diverse society and work force.

  • Support initiatives on the path to truth and reconciliation

The work on this deliverable will support the work that the City of Greater Sudbury’s Indigenous coordinator is leading to ensure we are supporting initiatives on the path of truth and reconciliation. It is important to approach this work with humility, respect, and willingness to listen from Indigenous peoples.

  • Develop a Diversity and Inclusion Policy

A DE&I policy has been developed and is going through the HCMP governance structure for approval.

Based on recommendations from Kindness, Justice and Inclusion (KJI) a policy has been built that will promote a workplace culture that values and respects differences, creates a sense of belonging for all employees, and helps to attract and retain diverse talent.

The DE&I policy is aspirational and outlines our organizations commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. It sets a vision and goals for creating a workplace that values and respects all individuals regardless of their differences. The policy and guiding principles provide a set of values, beliefs and rules that guide the organizations decision-making.
