Lonsdale Playground, 811 Lonsdale Avenue, Sudbury
Before: An existing slide was found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. This item will be removed in the spring 2019. A tot play structure and a spring toy are still in good condition and will remain in the playground.
Preferred activities were climbing multiple tiers of decking, swinging, slides at multiple heights and lengths and social interaction. Most requested park amenities were shaded rest areas, benches and a water fountain.
An overview of the renewed Lonsdale Playground shows the approximate placement of new play equipment as well as a shaded bench area. It does not show existing structures that do not require renewal and will remain in the playground.
Installation of new play structures, including a new ground surface of engineered wood fibre, is scheduled for the spring 2019.

Penman Park, Penman Avenue, Garson
Before: An existing play structure, climbing pole and swing set were found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. These items have been removed. A rocking “ladybug”, an interactive wall, a teeter-totter and a sandbox digger are still in good condition and remain in the playground.

Installation of new play structures was completed in early December 2018. A new ground surface consisting of engineered wood fibre will be installed in the spring 2019.

Pinecrest Tot Lot, Swanson Court, Val Caron
Before: Pinecrest Tot Lot has a variety of recreational opportunities with a Disc (Frisbee) Golf Course, a baseball diamond and a gazebo. An existing play structure and swing set were found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. These items have been removed.After: Residents told the City of Greater Sudbury they wanted a fitness focused playground design with structures that encourage climbing, swinging, agility and physical fitness. Place Hurtubise, 1966 LaSalle Boulevard, Sudbury
Before: An existing play structure and swing set were found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. All playground equipment has been removed.
After: Residents told the City of Greater Sudbury they wanted an equal mix of traditional, themed and fitness playground design with structures that encourage climbing, swinging, co-ordination and agility. Most requested park amenities were shaded rest areas, benches and bike racks.
New playground structures feature an exciting variety of climbing, agility and balancing apparatus with an accessible feature. A new swing set is suitable for both tots and older children.
Installation of new play structures and a new ground surface consisting of engineered wood fibre were completed on November 28, 2018. Grass areas will be restored in the spring 2019.

Selkirk Park, Selkirk Street, Sudbury
Before: Selkirk Park has a variety of recreational opportunities with a Disc (Frisbee) Golf Course, baseball diamond and gazebo. An existing play structure and swing set were found to be in poor condition and in need of renewal in less than five years. These items were removed.
After: Residents told the City of Greater Sudbury they wanted a traditional playground design with structures that encourage climbing, swinging, jumping and sliding. Most requested park amenities were gardens/flowers, picnic areas and benches.
The new playground structure is geared to ages 5 to 12 years. It has an exciting variety of climbing and balancing apparatus with an accessible feature. A new swing set is suitable for both tots and older children.
